My Story

“An openness of mind and heart that allows us to face reality even as we collectively imagine ways to move beyond boundaries, to transgress.” ~bell hooks

One of the most important relationships is the one we have with ourselves. More often than not, we were not taught how to water this relationship and as a result we may leave ourselves astray. When we are not at home with ourselves we may be more vulnerable to the inevitable everyday stressors and challenges life presents. It may also be that the external world has distanced us from ourselves.

We all have a story, circumstances and experiences that have and continue to shape who we are, including how we perceive ourselves and the world, what we believe, and the way we think, feel, and behave. Many times such circumstances, experiences, perceptions, beliefs, thoughts, emotions and behaviors can be difficult to acknowledge so we find ways to rid ourselves of them.

My hope as a therapist is to co-create with clients a space that is welcoming, warm, safe, healing and transformative. Through the therapeutic relationship healing and evolution can manifest.

My name is Luis and I self-identify as a Latino, cisgender male, and gay. I earned my masters in Counseling at the University of San Diego and I am an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC). I have worn many hats throughout my career including, Behavioral Health Therapist, Educationally Related Mental Health Services (ERMHS) Provider, and School Counselor, having experience working with children and adults in academic and clinical settings. I work with clients who have difficulties with anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, and OCD. I use a holistic approach to treatment and evidence-based and trauma informed therapeutic interventions. I have training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). I am also certified in Anxiety and OCD Diagnosis and Treatment.
