My Story

From early in my career, I was exposed to positive and effective goal-setting, the complex integration of wellness and resiliency factors, and the impact of shame, disability, and attachment wounding. I am particularly passionate about the physical components to mental health – reducing toxic stress, neurological responses to trauma triggers, clean diets, and movement/fitness to mention a few. I have helped design and implement four distinct types of integrative care programs (primary care in behavioral health wellness centers, social work in a primary care, holistic nursing with behavioral health, and fitness for mental wellbeing). Further, from educational experiences, volunteer work, special study/travel, and client work, I have been able to learn about and support those from Spanish-Speaking cultures, Hmong individuals, and the LGBTQIA+ community.

Most of my work has been with individual adults, although I have seen successful outcomes with motivated couples as well. Clients have ranged from young adults to elders, at all socioeconomic and educational levels. The care I provide to those who trust me as their provider is completely individualized and based upon where they have already been in their journey, where they want to go now, the tools they already have, and those beautiful moments of growth we uncover together. I prefer to take a positive approach balanced with a deep honoring of a sometimes harsh reality. My work has given me many years of direct client care and the great honor to hold a shame-free and safe space for so many unique individuals. I tend to approach therapy from a place of partnership, to study their unique life experience and needs as a team.

The most recent 8 years of my career as a psychotherapist were spent in a hospital outpatient behavioral health program where I met with clients experiencing a vast array of exchange between their mental and physical health. The region had pre-existing multigenerational poverty with some of the highest adverse childhood experience scores (ACEs) in California. My service continued several years after those clients survived California’s deadliest fire (Camp Fire, 2018) and several retraumatizing fires and evacuations in the following years. Participating in the recovery process of a whole community from intense trauma will forever be part of who I am and what tools I bring to our work together.

I look forward to meeting with you!
